About Jalynda
Jalynda Smith, B.M. Music Education
My name is Jalynda Smith and I am a professional piano teacher with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Western Michigan University. My teaching career began in Battle Creek, MI as a private instructor and I now also teach in Kalamazoo, Richland, and other surrounding areas.
I have taught piano lessons at Marshall's Music Co. and at Spring Valley Elementary School in partnership with the Gilmore Piano Education Program. I have previously participated in WMU’s Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Collegiate Singers.
Music has always been a part of my life and I've loved playing the piano for as long as I can remember. After learning how read books, I was determined to learn how to read music as well. Sharing my love and knowledge of music with students is one of my greatest joys. All of my experience is the foundation for my teaching methods for students looking either to start something fun or to build a musical career.

Why Take Voice Lessons?
Why not? If you’ve always wanted to learn to sing, just do it. It can be great fun, even if you have no desire at all to become a professional singer.
Achieve your greatest potential. You will never know how great you could sound unless you train with a qualified instructor. During your lessons you will develop healthy technique that will drastically improve your overall sound.
Improve your self-confidence. How much fun would it be to feel free to open your mouth and sing at a performance without being afraid of what might come out? Having the courage to sing for an audience can be a struggle for everyone. Along with your weekly lessons you will have the opportunity to perform in triannual recitals that will allow you to build your confidence and overcome any performance anxiety.
Develop your technique. By singing with improper technique you may develop issues of tightness and diminished range or serious conditions, such as vocal nodules. By learning correct technique, you can prevent these problems and sing with a strong and healthy voice.
Express yourself. There are many situations in day to day life in which we must restrain our feelings. Singing is not one of them. When you’re singing, you can express anger, joy, sorrow, longing – all of which can be very liberating.
Improve your posture and your awareness of your body. All of us have bad physical habits, which can adversely affect our health. Singing promotes body awareness and the ability to recognize and release patterns of tension.
Conquer your fears of speaking in public. If you can sing in front of people, you can speak in front of them.
